2011 Ford Fusion, 191k miles, for $2500? Should I get this car?

There are a couple of cosmetic damages, but nothing wrong with the vehicle functionally.

It’s a bit of a gamble; it could break down in 5k miles or last for another 50k miles.

If you can negotiate down to $1500, it might be worth it. At $2500 or more, absolutely not.

I agree, $1000 is more reasonable given the high mileage and expected rust issues. The current market for used cars is crazy, but that extra cash could be used for repairs to ensure it’s safe to drive.

@Jaime
That car likely has underlying issues, so be cautious. At least it’s the last year of that generation, which means some earlier bugs were addressed. It’s a reliable model overall, but for $1000 or $1500, it would be a decent deal.

@Addison
Actually, 2012 was the last of the first generation. The 2013+ models are the second generation. I currently own a gen 2 and think the 10-12 models are more reliable, especially the ones with the 2.5L I4 engine.

@Jaime
My sister’s Milan has been great; it’s also a Ford.

It’s tough to give a solid recommendation online. You need to check maintenance records, look at the oil and transmission fluid, and inspect for rust in common areas like rocker panels. The 2.5L engine is solid if it’s been maintained, but if it’s a V6, you might have to deal with a $2k water pump repair.

Absolutely not. At 190k miles, they should be giving it away. I’d only pay $500 max, considering how much you might have to put into it.

If you get it, change the transmission fluid immediately and check its service history.

A complete tune-up is a smart move—oil changes, fluids, spark plugs, brakes, and a diagnostic check can save you headaches.

@Day
Don’t forget to check the brake fluid and coolant too.

I got a 2012 Fusion for free at 96,000 miles and wouldn’t spend more than that. They have issues with the 6-speed automatic transmission. Mine shifts hard from 1st to 2nd. For $2500, you can find a more reliable option.

@Taj
Transmission updating could solve that shifting issue.

@Taj
This common problem can be addressed with reprogramming.

The Fusion and Escape models are reliable; just be careful with the earlier Focus and Fiesta models which had serious transmission issues.

@Luca
I’ve had to get my Fusion reprogrammed for shifting issues, but overall, it’s reliable.

Just remember, you’re taking a risk with a high-mileage Ford at $2000.

I own a 2009 Fusion with 320,000 km, and despite maintaining it well, the rocker panels are gone, but it still runs well.

Sounds like my 03 Expedition. It’s also rusting but runs great.
