Any idea? On what this means

This showed up while I was driving am I fucked it’s a 2008 sel after this it said system navigation error. Any ideas

I’m thinking the built-in compass that tells you what direction the vehicle is facing has been affected. I know the antenna was incorporated into the rear back glass of the early models (maybe 06 and some 07).

It could also probably be a separate antenna connected to your head unit or rearview mirror that is faulty.

This shouldn’t affect the vehicle physically and I can assume it’s still completely safe to drive.

Google says:

The compass sensor in your rearview mirror is malfunctioning, and you should try to recalibrate the compass by driving in circles in an open area, or check for potential magnetic interference from accessories in your car that could be disrupting the compass signal; if that doesn’t work, the mirror itself might need to be inspected or replaced.

@Zuri
Doubtful calibration is the issue or the message would be different than no response. As I recall it will say calibrate when needed, calibrating in this instance would be futile since there is no response from the compass so calibration can’t be communicated. Most likely is an issue with module/antenna/circuit causing no communication between.

I used to own an 09 that I got damn near 250k miles out of before I finally sold it. I never got this error but sometime around the high 100ks/low 200ks the compass just got stuck constantly saying that I was headed East at all times.

This probably isn’t very helpful for you but your post just happened to jog that old memory.

I get the same thing sometimes and sometimes it works just fine I wouldn’t be worried about it.

You should be able to go through the menu and find an option to recalibrate the compass. It’ll have you drive in figure 8’s to recalibrate it.

Check Google for specific instructions. I wouldn’t say anything is wrong with your car. It happens sometimes for whatever reason, but the sensors are normally fool proof.

This would be a bigger problem if your Fusion flies.

First you need to get the codes from the vehicle, it will give you an actual symptom code or codes to work with. The only issues I recall having with anything compass related on these were antenna issues. The code will tell you what’s happening better than no response, it’ll tell you what doesn’t have a response so you can go directly to it and test. If you don’t have a capable scantool (NOT an OBDII/Emissions system, need a quality professional scantool) than as a Ford owner if you expect to work on your vehicle you need one and Forscan is what you want. I think the adapter is around $100 and you’ll have the capability of an expensive pro scantool built specifically for Fords.

That means you’re going nowhere fast.
