2014 SE Ecoboost Issues

Earlier today I had three things all go out at the same time: Hill Start Control, Power Steering, and Traction Control. I was driving around 80mph around a slight banked curve on the highway when it all occurred. Went to a local auto shop to get the code ran, and both of my rear wheel speed sensors are giving invalid signals, my steering wheel position sensor reads “signal incorrect after event”, and my computer is getting invalid data from the power steering control module. After the stop at the auto shop, where the car was off for around ten minutes, all of the issues, I had while driving, went away (the problem codes did not). I’m wondering how much this may run me in repairs? How long the repairs can take? Can I possibly do them myself? And how desperate the repairs are? I am 2 hours away from home at school and I can’t get home again until next weekend for the repairs to be made, and I need my car for travel at school. Thanks. (Pictures are the reports AutoZone gave me)

You could probably replace some wheel speed sensors yourself if your handy - I watched a friend do mine on my fusion and it really didn’t look that difficult. Everything else I’m not sure about

Edit: that, of course, is assuming the sensor is your issue, and not that your sensors not working is a symptom of an underlying mechanical/electrical issue

All the sensors mentioned aren’t too expensive or difficult to replace like bigHukas said. However, if all the sensors went haywire at once like you described that leads me to believe you don’t need new sensors and something else has gone wrong-possibly wiring down the line, corrosion on the connectors, faulty tcm/ecu, etc. not sure why this diag doesn’t go further than pointing out which parts are failing/lost comm since a simple obd 2 reader would have shown the same for free in seconds… seems like you need an in depth diagnostic to determine the cause of the failure and you’d most likely find that none of the sensors need replacing. The probability of all these sensors going bad at once without actually wrecking the car is pretty much impossible, although 1 or 2 sensors might go bad from corrosion on the sensor itself, you typically wouldn’t see all of them failing at once like you’ve described.

I think with all of these codes being thrown simultaneously, it’s extremely unlikely the sensors are faulty. Probably bad communication between your ABS module (or some other module) and the rest of the vehicle. I can think of 3 possible causes:

  1. Bad/broken wiring
  2. Failing ABS/other module
  3. Failing battery or alternator

I would have your battery tested first. If it’s older than 5 years, I would just replace it without testing. Fusions are notoriously picky about batteries and will often have weird communication issues pop up even before a battery fails a load test.

If the battery is newer and tests good or if it’s replaced and the issue persists, I would take it to a dealer for troubleshooting.

It could also be that this was just a weird glitch or hiccup. It happens. If the issue goes away on its own and never pops up again I wouldn’t worry about it.

Electric issues do that. Battery or alternator
