2012 Ford Fusion SE 2.5

What are some of y’all’s concerns and proper maintenance besides “oil changes etc”? Have y’all had any concerns on start up of the car and how it sounds? And what’s some main things to check that should be done for these cars?

Sorry I don’t have any advice to give, but isn’t that a 2013+ model? 2008-2012 was a different model.

Sorry, yeah I meant to put 2016.

Is there a Gen 1 Fusion parked behind that Gen 2 2013-2016?

Transmission fluid! Normal scheduled maintenance as spelled out by your owner’s manual otherwise.

The 2.5 doesn’t have a lot of the problems the 1.5 and 2.0 Ecoboost have. There were issues with the head and the block that involved coolant getting into the cylinders which typically required a full engine replacement. You’ll likely have issues with the Ford Sync system somewhere down the road but that seems to be more prevalent with the 8" My Ford Touch systems. The speakers will probably go out if they haven’t already. I’ve had issues with the door keyless keypad on my Fusion and MKZ but I never really used them anyway. I had my Fusion for about 80,000 miles and I’ve had my MKZ for around 40,000 miles. The suspension is reliable, the interior holds up decently, and I never had a problem with either transmission. The Fusion is a good, cheap, reliable car as long as you avoid the 4cyl Ecoboost, which you have.

@Shane
I have the 2.5, not EcoBoost.

My wording was poor. I meant as long as you avoid the EcoBoost, which you have avoided.

My 2.5 has 150,000 miles plus. So far, so good. Other commenters were spot on about the speakers, though. Had to replace those. CV joints seem to be going, too. But overall, great car, lasted long enough for me to save up for a new one. Might just drive it into the dirt, though.

Couple heads up:

Speakers on the 2.5L are absolute junk, if you’re savvy on wiring, getting an upgraded setup, at least for the door speakers, would be worth the investment if you care about sound.

Sync updates are finicky at best, a pain in the ass at worst on this model, you may need to bring it into Ford if you really want to be able to auto connect Bluetooth and know what’s playing via head unit. Either that or get one of those Sync 3 conversion kits that are available if you have the $ to make it happen.

Keep an eye on the transmission and how it feels as time goes on and try to be adamant with your repairman about making sure the transmission is topped up. The 6F35 is not a good transmission, so if you plan on driving it into the ground, budget 7K for a rebuild/replacement in the future, but for most, if you keep on top of the top ups, you should be okay for 200K miles fairly comfortably.

@Gray
Yah, my front speakers are gone. I’m already looking to upgrade all 4.
