I am 75% sure I have coolant intrusion on my 2013 1.6l. No overheating and the oil looks fine, however this morning on a cold start I saw little bit of white vapor coming out of the exhaust. I’m really hoping this could be a head gasket issue and it just needs to be replaced. If not though, I was wondering if any of you guys had the engine replace if Ford helped out at all with payments? I saw some thread on here that Ford paid for part of it?
I discovered on fordfusionowners.com that Ford will cover coolant infiltration costs through Q1 2025. It was a master Ford technician’s post.
Are you having to top up the coolant tank? a bit of vapour means nothing and is normal.
Ford did not reimburse me or provide any assistance with my new engine. As far as I know, no class action exists for this problem.
Last night, I came onto a class action lawsuit regarding this! It ought to be among the best possibilities when you Google it.
Hydro Carbons combine with Oxygen to make Carbon Dioxide and H2O vapor (and other nasty stuff)
Process of Repair and Compensation The Ford Fusion and other impacted vehicles are the subject of a recall by Ford to fix coolant leaks. Your local dealer will handle the necessary repairs at no cost to you in order to remedy the issue. Under Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) 22-2134, if a short block repair is necessary because coolant seeps into the cylinder bores, the repair will be covered for 7 years or 84,000 miles from the date the warranty began, whichever comes first.
I paid 85523 miles for a used one. I then made 129 miles to the college and 129 miles to my house. Regretfully, until one day in the summer, a week after returning from college, I never truly checked the coolant. After a few days, the warning went away on its own and came back. reduced coolant to a minimum and traveled approximately 100 miles there and 100 miles back, passing over mountains. I’ve needed to top off every two weeks ever since. Up until this morning, when it was chilly and there were tiny white vapors escaping, the oil appears fine and there was no white smoke from the exhaust. It has 88k miles on it right now.
Similar to the 1.5s, it appears that the 1.6s are also subject to a recall. In the long term, retaining this car will save you a lot more money than just junking it and buying a new one the next month, so my advice is to check with Ford first to see if there is a recall related to your vin and to choose the guarantee over diagnostics at other shops.
If you get it fixed under recall, it will be free of charge, but given how frequently these smaller engines break down due to this tiny but dangerous design error, if you want to retain it for a while, I’d still think about getting a guarantee. which is not your fault but theirs!
