Sync 3 Upgrade for 2014 Ford Fusion SE Hybrid

I have a 2014 Ford Fusion SE Hybrid with a small, non-touchscreen display—probably Sync 1. I really want Android Auto and a backup camera, but I’m struggling to find options. Most tutorials and kits focus on upgrading from Sync 2 to Sync 3, but I can’t find much about upgrading from Sync 1 to Sync 3.

The info I’ve come across is either outdated (dead links) or mentions expensive solutions ($1,000+). I know my car isn’t new, but it runs great, and I’m still paying off my loan, so a budget-friendly option is ideal.

I’m aware of third-party Android Auto units, but I want something that doesn’t look cheap or flimsy—unless that’s my best option. Any suggestions for cost-effective ways to add Android Auto and a backup cam in 2025?

If you have a junkyard nearby, you might be able to pull the parts to go from the 4in screen to 8in screen.

Dead link…

Updated the link to add the internet archive snapshot. The original forum does seem to be acting up, and then I eventually get in.

Right on! - both working now.

You have 1.1 - hopefully, there’s a junkyard nearby where you can get the Sync 3 (make sure to get a 4 or 6-speaker setup that matches what you have!) - which WILL need to be programmed to your VIN# to work - and the adapter harness. That, or $1,200 for a kit, or aftermarket (and you’ll still need the inner trim piece for the 8" screen).

I seem to have the 6 speaker, but how would I program it to my VIN?

You will need FORscan, software using a Windows laptop and an OBDLINK adapter to send the proper information to the new units.

Yes, you can do that with FORscan - you’ll need a PC with FORscan and an OBD II adapter.

Just to clarify, if you have 6 speakers, you’ll likely have front door tweeters, while the 4-speaker setup won’t have tweeters.
