After washing my car today, I noticed some rust underneath. I’m wondering if it’s too late to address it.
I’m unsure how much longer my car can last in this condition or if it’s still safe to drive. Has anyone experienced this before?

@Frost
Time for the old coat hanger.

I used plenty of coat hangers to weld them back up. Who needs a proper welding rod if you got oxyacetylene torches and loads of metal coat hangers?
@Frost
Man that’s fancy. I just tie 'em up around whatever metal I can lol.

This will also cause premature failure of the flex pipe. Flex pipes are not cheap.
I have a 2010 SE. The bottom is rusted way more than that. It only has 58,000 miles on it, so the bottom will probably fall out before the engine goes bad. Lol.
You must be from Florida if this is scaring you.

Salt baby! Sign up for a car wash. Wash after every snow lol. Getting messed with salt.
Check into a product called fluid film and find your nearest place that can apply it.

Is this a lot of rust?

It’s hard to tell for sure from the photo, though it definitely looks concerning. Get a solid pointed object (Phillips screwdriver) and see if just the surface is rusty, or if the screwdriver can penetrate into the metal. If it’s just surface rust, fluid film is your answer. If the screwdriver penetrates, you need to have a mechanic look at it to determine if it is safe and if parts can be replaced.
Bonus to test your mechanic: After your next oil change, ask them if there’s rust down there and see what they say.
Yeah, that’s a lot of rust. The lower control arm mounting point looks terrifying to me. I can’t believe you’re just driving this around lol.

Should I change the control arms?
@Uma
No, the LCA is fine. It’s the subframe that looks like it’s rotten.
@Uma
Oh my God, that’s terrifying. Yeah, I would definitely change those as well. Honestly, at this point you’re better off just getting another car.
