Is this worth 8.9k?

I’ve been trying to find a Fusion with paddle shifters in Ohio. The car has almost 100k miles. Is it worth getting? I’m just worried about its reliability.

Look into coolant intrusion before getting it. Problem with the Ecoboosts, especially 1.5L and 1.6L.

No! Ecoboost engines are bad news; save the V-6.

They’re good…

Nah, I have an Ecoboost and holy fuck has it given me problems! Had a coolant leak into the engine the first year I got it, then 2 years later the transmission went out twice. I take the car to get maintenance regularly and it still gives me issues. I love my car, but holy fuck is it a piece of shit.

@Tariq
Y’all are unlucky, clearly. We’ve had roughly 30 Ecoboost Fusions in trade and drove them over 100,000 km and had 0 issues. 90% we get in trade are at 200,000 km or higher. Never serviced one for that issue.

I wish someone told me before buying a 2nd gen Fusion: STAY AWAY FROM 1.5L Ecopoops. 2.0L is also not good enough unless built after May 2019. I got stuck with a pre-2019 2.0 and I’m praying mine even makes it to that mileage on the same engine. Without a warranty, stay far away from 1.5s and the majority of 2.0s pre-2019. Love the Fusion platform; I had a 2012 SE 2.5L that was bulletproof. Now on a 2018 Titanium AWD—she’s nice but not worth a shit when the engine goes from coolant intrusion… look that up.

@Shai
This is amazing information for me. I was just looking into getting a Titanium AWD pre-2019.

You didn’t post the year or trim level.

It’s the 2018 SE.

I believe this year with the 1.5T engine is prone to coolant intrusion. I’m not in the US, so it’s hard to rate the price, although it seems good if there are no issues.

@Dustin
Ensure the coolant leak has been fixed; wasn’t there a recall or Ford fixes this issue? I’m told it didn’t happen on 2020 models.

Some time in 2019 the issue was resolved. This being a 2018, it’s a gamble.

@Dustin
Everything this sub and others have told is that the newer hybrids and the 2.5L are the best bets.

That can be found when searching the VIN.

Why would I search the VIN? Why would anyone?

Edit: Oops, thought you were OP making the excuse not to post that info, lol. My bad.

No?

Sure it’s subjective, but… no, I say.

Have a 2015 SE 2.5L, had it for about 10k miles now, and it’s running like a champ. It’s at 101.7k and I love it. Just doesn’t have paddle shifters. Didn’t want the Ecoboost and couldn’t find a V6 under 12 at a dealer but got mine for 11 after plates and everything else, so it was pretty good.

It’s worth it as long as the engine has been replaced with the new revision. Just start with a trans fluid change and keep up on it.
