On the left is the door panel I paid like $40 for at the junkyard. On the right, is my OEM door panel for my 2017 Fusion Energi SE. My original door panel has a cigarette burn from the original owner. TIL that not all fusions have an electronic gas door popper? How does your gas door open on your fusion? Also does anyone happen to have a good condition door panel that HAS the gas button?

On my 2017 you can’t open it from the outside. Have to push the button on the driver door or pull the release inside the trunk.
@Sage
I have a 2017. Now I’m confused.
Probably differences in models. Mine’s a hybrid titanium.

Must be, yeah.

Mine is also a hybrid titanium. Either the button on the door or the pull release in the trunk.

Pushing on my fuel door doesn’t do anything. Only the gas button on the door panel or the emergency pull in the trunk opens it.

The gas door itself?

Yes sir.
Well shit, I guess I’m putting my broken door panel back on.
Hybrids have a pressurized gas tank.
The button lets the system depressurize before it allows the gas door to open.

Oh, so I need to find a wrecked hybrid in order to get a matching door panel. That makes sense.

Well, that explains the delay after the button is pushed
@Sayer
Also explains why there is a warning if you don’t close it and drive off. Warning says you’ll get a check engine light.

My 2014 hybrid doesn’t have one.

Only Energis in 2013-2016 had the button. 2017 all hybrids/Energis did.
@Leif
My 2019 Titanium Hybrid has the button as well. I assume all of the latest gen Fusion Hybrids/Energis have the pressurized fuel tank.
@Leif
I hate the location of the button, it’s so easy to be pressed accidentally and there is no press and hold delay. Touch it while it’s in park, with the car on, electric mode or ICE mode and it will open.
It’s very annoying and it is mostly the result of a passenger by accident.
