My wife took my car this morning and went to fill it with gas, but it’s 4°F out and the gas door is frozen. The way you normally open the gas door is with the button on the driver-side door. Is there an alternative way?
For those confused by the existence of a button to open the fuel door on the Fusion, have not driven a hybrid or Energi model. The fuel system is pressurized and is generally released via a button on the driver side door panel, just above the storage pocket. There’s also a manual release tab in the trunk if, for whatever reason, the button won’t work.

Not sure about 2017 and later models, but 2013-2017 hybrids have a regular push-to-open door and a capless fuel filler. I know because I’m in a 2015 right now.

So the release button is unique to the hybrid variants… Another reason to dislike them.
But the 40-50 MPG is pretty nice.
I get between 30-35 in my non-hybrid, which is double what my other cars get, and I don’t have to deal with hybrid system malfunctions. We just have different priorities.
Strange. The fuel door on my 2020 Fusion opens by pushing on the door itself. There’s no release inside the car. You may just have to wait until it warms up some.

I did not realize that this was a hybrid feature only.

My 2013 hybrid doesn’t have a locked fuel door, but my 2015 does. And when you open it, there is a delay.
You understand I’ve owned this vehicle for 4 years. I’m not asking how to open the fuel door. I’m asking if there’s an alternative way to open it when it’s 4° out and it’s frozen shut.
