I am thinking of making my 2017 Fusion SE able to handle more rugged roads. Nothing for over landing or mudding but definitely wanna be able to handle any country road at full speed. Any recommendations for a more rugged suspension, body kits, and tires I should be looking into. Also plan to maybe get a 3.5l V6 for it. Is it super hard to engine swap?
Just give up now unless you have the time and resources to dedicate to this. I don’t mean “I’ll work on this on the weekends” or “Oh, you have 10 grand for parts” type of money or time. Instead, I’m going to commit six months of my life and fortyk on components to this.
Fusions had five different engine options. Inline 4s: 2.0l, 2.5l NA, 2.0l Hybrid, and 1.5l turbo. and the 2.7 twin turbo six-cylinder engine. It takes a lot of effort and time to swap out an engine for the exact identical one for one individual with minimal experience. Changing to an altogether new engine? Almost difficult, at least in a contemporary car.
It’s not a rally car; it’s a family-friendly luxury economic automobile. Get an AWD Astro van if you want something that can’t be beaten.
Idk what you mean by country road, are we talking like graded and smoothed out country road, a la Southern ontario, or are we talking middle of the sticks barely looks like a footpath country road?
If it’s the former, I can hit those in a bone stock fusion at 80km/h all day with no problems, no need for an upgrade just don’t hit a big pothole ezpz.
If it’s the latter, you could probably do a lift, not sure how or why cause the entire point of the fusion is to be an econobox daily, but it should be possible. Also you could probably slap a bigger engine in there, it would require modifying the subframe for it to fit, but it could be done.
You would also definitely want to think of better airflow and plating up the bottom with skid guards.
Ford Fusion Raptor, let’s go!
