I have a 2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid and I’ve noticed that it hardly uses the EV mode these days. When I start driving, it goes on electric power for a short time but quickly switches to gas. It used to stay on EV mode longer, especially at lower speeds.
After looking into it, I found out that some older hybrid models, like the 2010 to 2012, might adjust the hybrid system as the battery gets older to help it last longer. I’m curious if my 2013 Fusion has the same problem where the system cuts back on EV operation since the car is over 10 years old.
Does anyone know if Ford made the 2013 models act this way after they got older? If yes, can you reprogram or reset the system to increase EV usage again? I’ve heard of things like:
Resetting the Battery Management System or BMS
Reprogramming the Hybrid Powertrain Control Module or HPCM
Using tools like Forscan to change settings
I’m looking for advice or anyone who has experienced this before. Should I try a software reset or could this be a sign my hybrid battery is failing? Any help would be much appreciated…

Not really. I’m in Jordan and it’s rarely that cold here. I’ve had this problem for about a year now, and it was happening in the summer too, so the weather isn’t the cause

Don’t forget, the heater uses engine heat to warm up the cabin, so the engine will stay on to provide warmth
I’ve been facing this issue for some time now, and it’s not related to the air conditioning or heater. It still happens even when everything is turned off
You didn’t mention your mileage but if you’re an average driver, you probably have over 150,000 to 200,000 miles. I’ve rarely heard of a battery pack lasting past 200,000 miles for the 2018 Fusion SE Hybrid. Your car is much older, so the battery is likely worn out. Some companies can recondition your battery pack
Colder weather and oil maintenance can make your engine run more. Try warming up your engine with the heat on high, then turn off the heat to see if it improves
I only got 17 mpg on a trip yesterday because it was really cold and I had to run the heat for my son. It was a short trip of less than 5 miles
Edit: Oh, I see you’re in Jordan. So just ignore that and good luck resolving your issue
